Futur model adjustable double edged razor. Dial with six setting so you can adjust the blade to your comfort. Double edge safety razor blades.

The Futur opens by pushing the top cap off as shown starting with a side upward movement. This traditional and fully adjustable razor is a great way to find the closest and most comfortable shave. 4 3/8 inch total razor length. Weight is 4.2 ounce. The numbers 1 through 6 are used to adjust the blade gap - 1 setting is most closed, 6 setting is most open. Click for more information or video

Did you know? All Merkur razors in gold are gold plated in a galvanic bath (not just gold colored). Gold plating is done over a nickel layer and we are talking about 14 carat, hard-gold plating (technical term for a method where other components like cobalt, silver and copper come with the gold) to give not only the warm shine but also being hard enough not to come off.

Superior product

If looking for a quality well engineered razor designed to last, you won't be disappointed with the Futur.

I switched over to wet-shaving about 6 years ago. I normally have to shave daily to keep a smooth look.(Gillette Fusion, atra, e.t.c.) I've had the Futur for less than 6 months but this is the first razor that lets me skip a day if I want. Granted day 2 is obviously not the same as a freshly shaved face, but bearable, at least for me. Your experience will vary based on beard texture and growth rate.

Important points:
(1)This razor has some weight to it (which I like). This allows you to simply guide the razor across your face and as a previous reviewer mentioned, "let gravity do the work". If you're looking for and prefer a light razor, this one is not for you.

(2)The adjustable feature is great. You will probably find a setting you like and stick to it. I use it on the next to lowest setting. However, the ability to choose the blade exposure allows you hold the razor at a shaving ang...

Close to the shave of a Vision but lower maintenance

I picked one up as a replacement for my aged and ailing Progress. From my first shave, I could tell that it was clearly superior; I could have kicked myself for not upgrading sooner.

BTW, I have a fast growing, heavy beard; unless I get a near BBS shave in the morning, I need to shave again at dinner! The Progress was my first razor that routinely let me skip that evening shave. The Progress, in turn, was noticeably better than a 1904-type Merkur, and the Futur takes it to yet another level -- for me, that is.

I had originally hit the site intending to go for the top-of-the-line Vision, but learnt soon enough that it had been discontinued a couple of years ago. I googled around and did find a few NOS pieces at inflated prices.

I surmised that the Futur was Merkur's attempt to deliver the shave quality of the Vision but with lower maintenance requirements (A Vision needs to be disassembled and cleaned with each blade change! And also, maybe decalsified, depending on your water.) I think they've succee...

Great razor!

I've been using a chrome Futur for more than a year and really enjoy the shaves I get with it. It came as part of a 3-piece set I no longer see on the site. I use the setting that is the most closed and lather twice per shave.

As German (in good ways) as it gets -- heavy, balanced and ideal for heavy beard -- just angle it against your face and let gravity do the work -- lift-off top is innovative and functional for blade replacement -- handle can get slippery but no problem with alum (or just drying your hands during shave) --
