Handmade Simpson's brushes use three classifications for their bristle grades. Pure, Best and Super. In general, these bristles are a little more stout than some, especially in the higher grades. Sorting, climate and region can all effect the bristle's texture and feel.

Our understanding is higher mountain badgers produce bristles that can be whiter and more heavy in texture for superior performance. In addition, the bristle 'knots' in these brushes are set deeper in the handle than normal, another factor when determining value.
