From then to now... Although Emily first started pressing flowers as a teenager, she became serious about sharing her art form with others after moving to Alaska.  There she sold her pictures through galleries, gift shops and from her home studio.

Eighteen years ago Emily Witherspoon moved to the central Oregon coast. Here she had continued to promote her products and grow most of the flowers and foliage used in her pressed flower art. In addition she pursued her career as a real estate broker while working on a web site as an outlet for her pressed flower products.

The web site went live in 1997, and today has evolved from a pressed flower outlet to a full-time business specializing in men's wet shaving with a brush, grooming items and aromatherapeutic products. Many of the toiletry products are rich in natural botanicals that nourish the skin. How things changed from a pressed flower sideline to a business specializing in men's products is, as they say, another story... and a long one at that.

The transition happened rapidly and Emily had to put her real estate career behind to oversee the business full-time. Today Em's Place customers consist of 90% men, or women shopping for men. As most would agree, a man can be hard to buy for at gift giving times and the shaving brush and wet shaving supplies offer something different. Many men have expressed to Emily that the use of a shaving brush "has changed the daily routine of shaving from a chore to something enjoyable". Shaving does not have to be a dreaded task and using a brush with warm, quality lather (not from a can) makes all the difference. This is not just for past generations - it is an evolving trend!

Em's Place continues to carry some pressed flower supplies for the do-it-yourselfer and offers some of her handmade creations as time allows. There are many pictures to be seen from arrangements that have been made over the years to give ideas and inspiration to others who want to pursue pressed flower art as a form of expression and beauty.
